What is luxury vinyl plank?

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring looks like hardwood planks. It can be installed in areas of the home that are prone to moisture or water. Waterproof vinyl will not suffer damage to the surface or structure even through extended periods of exposure to water. Four layers

Pet-friendly LVP resists stains, scratches, dents, and other types of abrasion. Each plank is composed of four layers of materials that are bonded together. A high tech printing process gives the design layer authenticity. Luxury vinyl is thicker than standard vinyl, and this allows for deep embossing. Planks range in thickness from 2 mm to 8 mm or more. A clear wear layer protects the design layer. Look for a thickness of 20-mil or more. The backing layer protects the subfloor and provides cushioning while the core offers moisture and water protection. 

Installation

LVP is more easily installed than hardwood planks. Generally, planks are not attached to the subfloor. Instead, they fit together using a click and lock system. When complete, the floor floats above the subfloor. Ease of plank replacement when damage occurs adds to the durability of the floor. LVP can be installed over some existing flooring and radiant heat. Underlayment helps to create a quiet floor that provides cushioning so it is comfortable to walk and stand on. Underlayment can also include thermal properties, sound absorption technology, and a moisture barrier. High-quality LVP is backed by a warranty that lasts for 20 years or more.
